Wood Fired Pottery June 2023

In summer of 2023 I got another opportunity to have work in our train kiln. This body of work was fired at cone 10 reduction, experimenting with ten different slips and six different glazes on a white stoneware and brown stoneware. Some mistakes were made for when certain slips should be applied, and that will be noted in the captions along with type of clay and what was on each vessel. I was able to help load the kiln this time and will include my rough sketches of where my work was placed inside the kiln. I also had the luck of helping unload the kiln to see my results right away! This was an incredibly fun opportunity, and I will be looking for more chances to wood fire pots.

Note: this mushroom was knocked into a side stoke ember bed. Scaling effect provided by a crushed seashell bed a resident artist's pot was nestled on in the side stoke.
