Wood Fired Pottery June 2024
This collection of functional and sculptural work is from a train kiln wood firing in June 2024. Three mugs that didn't fit in the kiln went in the week after with a different batch of pots, and a tumbler cup and large vessel were re-fired. Building off what I learned in March from the process of how the kiln is loaded and it's effects on pots, I included mostly functional work in this batch. I also included more tests of my wild clay, but some stress cracking and sagging indicate it most likely is a clay to be fired between cones 6 and 10. There was some loss to stress cracking and movement from side stoke oopses and coal bed movement. These pieces were fired to cone 12 with a gentle reduction cooling to bring out more reds.

The three mugs and two re-fires to go into the second kiln. The tumbler and vessel were in the front of the kiln and choked by a tight stack that prevented the ember bed from getting enough oxygen to burn down.
