When I first returned to pottery in fall of 2012 there was a glaze called "Smokey Mountain Mist" that I adored. Then suddenly, like some glazes do, it failed without warning and turned an ugly vomit green. Six years later I still missed this glaze, and after taking an introduction course to glaze mixing and formulation seized the opportunity to see if I could "fix" it. Almost four months and nine color variations later, learning that this was originally called "Rutile Green" so perhaps my first attempt was more correct than what had originally been mixed, I believe I have gotten it as close as I can to the original color. Considering this glaze was originally named "Rutile Green", we were all a little stumped by it's behavior, but glad to have used it as a learning experience and it's possible return to the studio I work in.
Base recipe and colorant percentages have been listed in the photo captions. All tests were fired in a gas reduction to high cone 6, soft 7. Glaze is food safe.
