Wood Soda Fired Pottery December 2023

This body of work is from my first wood soda kiln firing from December 2023. We attempted to fire at cone 10 reduction, dealing with accidental fuel shortage and terrible weather, but somehow succeeded to a degree. There were some slightly under-fired sections in the kiln but overall I was pleased with the results. This was the first class soda firing at cone 10 (not including firings from resident artists), experimenting with the same ten different slips and six different glazes with much better success and no application errors. Clay bodies used include porcelain, my own processed wild clay, and five different stonewares. Each image will have clay body and slips/glazes listed per pot. I was extremely happy with the results of this firing and how the soda ash laid beautifully on the pots. The layout of the catenary arch kiln also protected pots from heavier hitting wood ash, lending to more clear surfaces and infinitely easier clean up! I intend to focus on putting more functional pieces in the soda kiln and sculptural/decorative pieces in the train kiln.
